Indigestion means discomfort in upper abdomen. It is a disorder of digestive function characterized by heartburn, nausea and symptoms of stomach upset such as loss of appetite, flatulence and early satiety etc. Indigestion is also known as Dyspepsia.

Causes of Indigestion:
Indigestion can be caused by number of reasons such as Liver dysfunction, Worm infestation, Lack of enzymes, Anxiety, tension, pressure & worry also lead to indigestion. Eating at irregular intervals, overeating or eating junk food can cause indigestion.

Indigestion According to Ayurveda

According to Ayurveda “A person is said to be healthy when there is balance in his doshas (Vata, Pitta &Kapha), agni (metabolic factor), dhatus (tissues), malas (excretory products) and harmony in mental factors like indriyas, manas, atma.” This verse shows the importance of agni in maintenance of normal health.

There are different types of agni present in human body. Jatharagni is one of the agni correlated to biological fire or digestive fire in the body which is responsible for digestion of food. Disturbed functions of Agni can cause indigestion of food which is termed as “Ajirna”in sanskrit. Ajirna is the most important source of production of Ama (Body toxin).  If Ama is not eliminated from the body, it gets accumulated in the body creates imbalance of Tridosha which results in diseased body.

A balanced agni is responsible for longevity, complexion, strength, health and immunity of the body. So, according to Ayurveda we have to maintain balance in Agni with the help of “Tridoshamak” drug formulae.

To correct Indigestion (Dyspepsia), promote appetite a combination is needed which will

  1. Correct enzyme secretions & regulate the bowel movement by normalizing stomach activity, thereby build appetite & improve digestion.
  2. Normalize liver function & regulate secretions of bile, thereby build appetite & improve digestion.
  3. Cures worm infestation which generally hampers digestion, thereby build appetite & improve digestion.
